Apex Earthworks is the land clearing contractor developers, ranch owners, and general contractors call on throughout Fort White and southern Columbia County, clearing timber, brush, and undergrowth ahead of grading, driveways, and new construction.

Land clearing for Fort White properties

Land Clearing Contractor Work Around Fort White

Fort White sits along the SR-47 corridor between High Springs and Lake City, in a stretch of Columbia County known for spring-fed rivers, cattle ranches, and rural timber tracts. As the land clearing contractor working this part of North Florida, Apex Earthworks serves landowners and contractors near the Ichetucknee Springs State Park area, along CR-138, and out toward the Gilchrist County line, clearing pine, hardwood hammock, and thick underbrush before roads, pads, and structures go in.

Whether a project calls for opening acreage for an agricultural building near the Santa Fe River corridor or clearing right-of-way off US-27A, our crews bring equipment sized for Fort White's mix of pasture and dense timber. Developers, general contractors, and estate owners rely on us to get land cleared correctly the first time, leaving a clean site ready for the next phase of work.

Apex Earthworks also handles the underbrush and access clearing that comes before ranch driveways and long private roads are regraded, reopening entrances that overgrow fast along this stretch of southern Columbia County.

Local ground conditions in southern Columbia County

Land Clearing Challenges Unique to the Fort White Area

The ground around Fort White presents its own set of challenges for any land clearing contractor, largely shaped by the karst limestone bedrock that defines this part of North Florida. Sinkhole activity and shifting water tables near the Ichetucknee and Santa Fe Rivers mean clearing here takes more than cutting brush; crews need to understand how water moves through the soil before equipment ever touches the ground.

Common conditions our crews plan around in Fort White include:

Clearing a site with these factors in mind is what keeps a driveway, pad, or road stable long after the equipment leaves.

  • Karst limestone bedrock with a higher risk of sinkhole activity than sites farther inland
  • High water tables close to the Ichetucknee River and surrounding spring-fed creeks
  • Sandy topsoil layered over dense clay hardpan that traps surface water
  • Thick palmetto and hardwood underbrush on undeveloped ranch and timber tracts
  • Seasonal flooding during Florida's summer rainy months
  • Mature pine stands and hardwood hammocks that require careful clearing before grading or construction can begin

Services offered in Fort White

Land Clearing Contractor Services for Fort White Properties

Apex Earthworks brings five core services to commercial sites, large estates, and infrastructure projects around Fort White, covering everything from the first cut of timber to a finished access road. Each one can stand alone or be combined on the same job, so one crew carries a property from raw ground to build-ready.

Land Clearing Across Southern Columbia County

From development tracts along SR-47 to timbered ranch acreage out toward the Gilchrist County line, we handle commercial lot clearing, estate and acreage clearing, brush and underbrush removal, and right-of-way corridors. Pine, hardwood hammock, and overgrown pasture come out cleanly so the next phase starts on schedule.

Site Preparation and Grading for Fort White Builds

Karst ground near the Ichetucknee and Santa Fe Rivers needs careful site grading before a pad or structure goes in. Our site preparation covers excavation, land grading for drainage, stormwater control, and culverts, all shaped around how water actually moves through Fort White's sand and clay.

Forestry Mulching on Fort White Timber Tracts

Thick palmetto and hardwood undergrowth off CR-138 gets ground down in a single pass by our mulching equipment. Trees, brush, and palmettos become a protective layer on the soil, with no hauling or burning, which helps hold sandy ground in place through the summer rains.

Driveway and Access Road Construction Near US-27A

Long ranch entrances and commercial access roads around Fort White take a beating from heavy trucks and seasonal flooding. We build heavy-duty sub-base, handle driveway grading and compaction, and take on driveway repair for estate and commercial roads that need to hold up under real loads.

Structural Demolition in the Fort White Area

Aging barns, agricultural buildings, commercial structures, and larger residences across southern Columbia County come down under controlled conditions. We remove foundations, haul the debris, and leave the site build-ready for whatever comes next on the property.

Our process for Fort White jobs

How Our Fort White Land Clearing Contractor Team Works

Every project starts with a real look at the property, not a guess from a satellite photo. Here's how a typical job comes together from first call to final grade.

  1. Site Visit and Assessment

We walk the property, checking existing vegetation, soil conditions, and drainage patterns specific to the Fort White area's karst terrain before recommending a scope of work.

    STEP 01
  2. Clearing and Debris Management

Our crews clear trees, brush, and underbrush using forestry mulching equipment, managing debris on-site or hauling it off depending on the project's requirements.

    STEP 02
  3. Excavation and Grading

With the site cleared, we move into excavation and grading, shaping the land for proper drainage and building a stable sub-base for roads, pads, or driveways.

    STEP 03
  4. Final Walkthrough and Handoff

We complete a final walkthrough to confirm grade, drainage flow, and compaction meet the project's specifications before handing the site off ready for the next phase of construction.

It was guessed that a wind shear came through and uprooted 3 oaks, one went into our garage. After seeing his, Mike’s videos on Facebook, I decided to reach out. So, so glad I did, even impressed the husband!! Mike and crew were phenomenal! Now we do not have to worry about any trees damaging the house or garage.

Mike and his crew from Apex Earthworks were fantastic. I had put off a land clearing job ever since our last two hurricanes and my property and pastures were a mess. Much more debris than what I could handle myself. Apex came in with a Forestry Mulcher for three days and the rest is history. The entire property has been restored to pre-hurricane standards. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Apex Earthworks to anyone needing land clearing.

I am doing a lot split and was taking estimates for land clearing and a culvert. Mike came out and was very informative about everything that is involved (since I don't know anything about land clearing or culverts, I've never been thru this process before) in clearing the land of pine trees and where the best placement for the culvert would be. Mike texted and called over a two week period of time to follow up with any questions that I may of had. I was finally able to sit down and go over the estimates this past Friday (7/17/26) with the person who will be placing a manufactured home on the lot.... we scoured over the estimates and it came down to 2 contractors.... (Apex Earthworks and one other)...we really liked both of them. They were comparable in price and the scope of work. It came down to who could do the work as soon as possible. Even tho we decided to go with a different company.... I APPRECIATE everything that Mike did to accommodate our needs. His company was highly recommend.... and I see why... he educates the customer, he is honest, and very "customer" oriented. I appreciated that Mike always took time to answer my questions. He was awesome. Even tho the land clearing job didn't work out.... I definitely will be contacting him in the future for an estimate on the driveway. If you are looking for someone that is honest, reliable and his price is good.... Give Mike at Apex Earthworks a call. I look forward to possibly using your in the future for jobs. Thank you Mike!

Mike and his crew were referred to me by a current contractor work at my home. Mike showed up with a great disposition and a firm handshake. He handled all of my grading and backfill needs, on time and on budget. I later reached out to Mike and inquired about my driveway ideas. Mike met with me and we discussed all the options available to me. Keeping my future plans in mind Mike was able to help design the perfect functioning driveway. To say we are pleased would be an understatement, My wife and I love it ! We couldn’t be happier. In closing I would recommend Apex Mulching and Land Management to anyone. Like everyone cost conscious these days, it was a relief knowing Mike was able to complete the job on budget. Thanks again Mike !

Wow. Mike and his crew got after it. We found APEX because my wife caught one of their videos online. We recently moved into our forever home and the front yard was a train wreck. For whatever reason previous owners put a fence and black top dead center of the front yard. When you tell people that your front yard looks like Hell, and they overwhelmingly agree with you, you know it’s hot garbage. Mike and his guys removed the fence, without damaging it, broke up the blacktop, hauled it off, ground down some stumps, leveled the yard, raked out a ridiculous amount of roots and root vines, hauled in (and leveled) several trucks of top soil, and even seeded the ground. Now we’ll see how bad my grass game is. Already plan to use them again to clear the back of our property in the fall. You won’t find a better, more down to earth (pun intended), or more fair priced, crew. If you’re trying to decide to go with them, or another company, watch the videos.
