Land Clearing Contractor in Gainesville, FL

Apex Earthworks is a land clearing contractor providing site preparation, forestry mulching, and drainage work for developers and property owners throughout Gainesville and Alachua County.

Land clearing contractor serving Alachua County

Land Clearing Contractor Work Around Gainesville, FL

Gainesville has grown fast along corridors like Archer Road, Newberry Road, and Tower Road, and that growth keeps a land clearing contractor busy across new construction sites and expanding commercial parcels. Working near Jonesville, Haile Plantation, and the commercial stretches around Butler Plaza, our crews clear raw acreage, grade it to spec, and handle the drainage and culvert work that keeps water moving off a site instead of pooling on it.

Much of our Gainesville work supports commercial builders, developers, and estate owners preparing raw land for construction. Whether a project sits near the I-75 interchange corridor or further out toward San Felasco Hammock, we bring the equipment to clear ground, cut in access, and set drainage correctly the first time.

We also handle standalone driveway and drainage work for property owners who already have a build but need better water flow across an entrance or access road, including driveway culvert installation, regrading, and driveway repair for entrances that have started to wash out during Florida's summer storm season.

Local terrain considerations

Sandy Soils and Drainage Challenges Near Gainesville

Alachua County's terrain is a mix of sandy, well-draining soil in the uplands and low, wet ground closer to Paynes Prairie and the Sweetwater Wetlands. That combination creates real headaches for anyone trying to build an access road, install a culvert, or keep a driveway intact through the rainy season.

Common issues we see on Gainesville sites include:

  • Karst limestone and sinkhole-prone ground that requires careful excavation near known low spots
  • High water tables close to Paynes Prairie Preserve and the Hogtown Creek basin
  • Sandy base erosion that leads to frequent driveway repair needs after heavy rain
  • Dense palmetto and live oak hammock underbrush that slows clearing without the right equipment
  • Poorly sized or aging culverts causing driveway flooding during summer storms
  • Clay pockets mixed with sand that complicate compaction for access roads

Forestry mulching and land clearing services

Land Clearing and Forestry Mulching Services for Gainesville Projects

Every clearing job in Gainesville starts with understanding what's actually on the land, whether that's scattered pine, oak hammock, or heavy palmetto understory. Our forestry mulching services grind vegetation down on site in a single pass, which keeps costs lower and avoids the hauling and burning that slow other clearing methods down.

Below are the five core services we bring to commercial developers, general contractors, and large property owners across Gainesville and Alachua County, from first clearing pass to demolition and build-ready ground.

Land Clearing Across Gainesville and Alachua County

Clearing for commercial lots along Archer Road and Tower Road, multi-acre estates near Jonesville and Haile Plantation, heavy brush and underbrush clearing in oak hammock, and right-of-way corridors feeding Gainesville's expanding utility and road network.

Site Preparation for Gainesville Construction

As an excavation contractor familiar with Alachua County's karst limestone and clay pockets, we handle excavation, grading, drainage, and culvert installation so pad sites near the I-75 corridor and Newberry Road are ready for concrete and structures.

Forestry Mulching for Dense Alachua County Parcels

Single-pass grinding of pine, hardwood saplings, brush, and thick palmetto on parcels out toward San Felasco Hammock and Kanapaha, leaving a protective mulch layer on sandy soil with no hauling or burning required.

Driveway and Access Road Construction in Gainesville

Heavy-duty sub-base, grading, and compaction for commercial entrances and estate drives that have to hold up to truck traffic and summer storms, including ground near the Hogtown Creek basin where high water tables soften weak roadbeds.

Structural Demolition for Gainesville Redevelopment

Removal of aging commercial buildings in established corridors like the Butler Plaza area, plus agricultural barns, larger residential structures, and old foundations on outlying acreage, with debris hauled off and the site left build-ready.

How we work in Gainesville

Our Process for Land Clearing and Site Prep Projects in Gainesville

Every Gainesville project runs through the same process, whether it's a commercial pad site off Archer Road or an estate driveway near Kanapaha. Here's how a typical job moves from first call to finished ground.

  1. Site Visit and Scope Review

We walk the property, review any Alachua County permitting requirements, and map out the clearing, grading, or drainage work needed before equipment ever shows up.

    STEP 01
  2. Clearing and Forestry Mulching

Crews clear brush, palmetto, and unwanted trees using mulching equipment that processes vegetation on site, keeping the schedule tight and the ground usable right away.

    STEP 02
  3. Grading, Culvert Installation, and Drainage Prep

Once the ground is clear, we grade to spec and handle driveway culvert installation and drainage work so water has somewhere to go instead of collecting on the site.

    STEP 03
  4. Final Grading and Walkthrough

We finish with final grading and compaction, then walk the site with the owner or project manager to confirm everything is ready for the next phase of work.

    STEP 04

Why Gainesville property owners choose Apex

What Sets Apex Earthworks Apart in Gainesville

Gainesville's mix of university-driven development, expanding commercial corridors, and protected conservation land means every project has its own set of requirements. Here's what property owners and contractors tell us matters most.

Familiarity With Alachua County Site Conditions

We've worked the sandy uplands near Tower Road and the wetter ground closer to Paynes Prairie, so we know how to plan grading and drainage before problems show up mid-project.

Equipment Sized for Fast-Growing Corridors

From Archer Road to the I-75 interchange, Gainesville's growth means bigger lots and tighter deadlines. Our equipment fleet is built for commercial-scale clearing and site prep, not backyard jobs.

Careful Work Near Conservation Land

Projects bordering San Felasco Hammock, Sweetwater Wetlands, or Paynes Prairie need clearing done with real attention to boundaries and drainage. We plan every job with that in mind.

It was guessed that a wind shear came through and uprooted 3 oaks, one went into our garage. After seeing his, Mike’s videos on Facebook, I decided to reach out. So, so glad I did, even impressed the husband!! Mike and crew were phenomenal! Now we do not have to worry about any trees damaging the house or garage.

Mike and his crew from Apex Earthworks were fantastic. I had put off a land clearing job ever since our last two hurricanes and my property and pastures were a mess. Much more debris than what I could handle myself. Apex came in with a Forestry Mulcher for three days and the rest is history. The entire property has been restored to pre-hurricane standards. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Apex Earthworks to anyone needing land clearing.

I am doing a lot split and was taking estimates for land clearing and a culvert. Mike came out and was very informative about everything that is involved (since I don't know anything about land clearing or culverts, I've never been thru this process before) in clearing the land of pine trees and where the best placement for the culvert would be. Mike texted and called over a two week period of time to follow up with any questions that I may of had. I was finally able to sit down and go over the estimates this past Friday (7/17/26) with the person who will be placing a manufactured home on the lot.... we scoured over the estimates and it came down to 2 contractors.... (Apex Earthworks and one other)...we really liked both of them. They were comparable in price and the scope of work. It came down to who could do the work as soon as possible. Even tho we decided to go with a different company.... I APPRECIATE everything that Mike did to accommodate our needs. His company was highly recommend.... and I see why... he educates the customer, he is honest, and very "customer" oriented. I appreciated that Mike always took time to answer my questions. He was awesome. Even tho the land clearing job didn't work out.... I definitely will be contacting him in the future for an estimate on the driveway. If you are looking for someone that is honest, reliable and his price is good.... Give Mike at Apex Earthworks a call. I look forward to possibly using your in the future for jobs. Thank you Mike!

Mike and his crew were referred to me by a current contractor work at my home. Mike showed up with a great disposition and a firm handshake. He handled all of my grading and backfill needs, on time and on budget. I later reached out to Mike and inquired about my driveway ideas. Mike met with me and we discussed all the options available to me. Keeping my future plans in mind Mike was able to help design the perfect functioning driveway. To say we are pleased would be an understatement, My wife and I love it ! We couldn’t be happier. In closing I would recommend Apex Mulching and Land Management to anyone. Like everyone cost conscious these days, it was a relief knowing Mike was able to complete the job on budget. Thanks again Mike !

Wow. Mike and his crew got after it. We found APEX because my wife caught one of their videos online. We recently moved into our forever home and the front yard was a train wreck. For whatever reason previous owners put a fence and black top dead center of the front yard. When you tell people that your front yard looks like Hell, and they overwhelmingly agree with you, you know it’s hot garbage. Mike and his guys removed the fence, without damaging it, broke up the blacktop, hauled it off, ground down some stumps, leveled the yard, raked out a ridiculous amount of roots and root vines, hauled in (and leveled) several trucks of top soil, and even seeded the ground. Now we’ll see how bad my grass game is. Already plan to use them again to clear the back of our property in the fall. You won’t find a better, more down to earth (pun intended), or more fair priced, crew. If you’re trying to decide to go with them, or another company, watch the videos.
